Art by artists from the architectural professions of Scotland

Ian Parsons

Ian studied at Edinburgh University where he was an early adopter of “green” architecture. He developed a cottage solar renovation  project with the University-School of the Man Made Future and his thesis was for a group of 10 energy self sufficient houses in Canada, designed for a UH Habitat competition.

During his career, he worked for several well-known practices including RMJM. Ian had a parallel career as an inventor. He took several years away from the mainstream running a company seeking commercial approval for his invention, which ultimately became an entirely safe and pleasant to use human headlice treatment.

He became a successful sole practitioner specialising in historic buildings and collaborated in award winning projects as historic building advisor-Conservation Accredited Architect, to leading practices including Cameron Webster for Papple Steading, Phase One and Bennetts Associates for the Citizens Theatre. Ian retired in 2026 and is re-discovering sketching and photography and the possibilities for an ecologically sound future.
