Harold H Phillips is a graduate of Strathclyde School of Architecture. On graduation he immediately joined Jack Holmes and Partners where he remained for his entire career, retiring in 2013 as Chairman of the enlarged practice of Holmes Miller based in Glasgow.
In 2010 he explored the possibility of carrying out work in booming China, went on to found the local practice of Holmes Miller China with a base in Guangzhou and had the role of Chairman of that practice until finally stepping down in 2025. Retiral from practice simply left time to pursue a strong urge to build and he has since built 3 houses in Scotland as well as properties in France and Switzerland. His current home is a self-build eco-house in the Trossachs, which exceeds energy and air-tightness standards set by the Passivhaus system.
Only in the last couple of years has he returned to the world of drawing and painting with a feeling of understanding for why do you make art. His art attempts to invite interrogation of the image in the hope that it will reward frequent visits.
